Why Tunisia is different

From Robert Kaplan of the NYT.

Favorable history, geography, and an initial focus on development as a means to growth (rather than the other way around) by Bourguiba - before things eventually turned bad under Ben Ali... contrast these with some of Tunisia's neighbors.

  2. It saddens me to think about the struggles that the people in the Middle East are going to face during this time of revolt; however I am hoping for the best. Democracy is not the only answer but it is time that they have leaders that rule based on progress and human rights rather than religious oppression. Much (if not most) of the progress made in the past has coincided with violence and dark times. I can only hope that at the end of this tunnel there will be a better life for Tunisia and their followers.
